this anime is not sad imo, even though the main girl died but that didn't make me sad at all, because the main girl was killed by someone, maybe this anime will be sad if the main girl dies of her illness.

It was kind of obvious that she is going to die. But it was not too sad for me. The main character had a great development though.

wait was this comment supposed to be an irony ? I felt like if she died due to her illness it would have been better , and it would also be expected

I feel like it could have been much better without the beginning of the movie. The beginning itself tells you everything about how it ends.

You know that Sakura died after MC sent her a particular message. When in the end he literally types the name of the film to send her, it becomes obvious that she is about to die. That shock value of him returning and finding out is taken away because of that.

They do a lot to allow us to be in the MC's shoes by not focusing on him and leaving him undeveloped. So, it would have been better if we also felt the same sudden shock he must have felt.

Other than that, the movie is fine. Just the beginning is something I would personally change/cut out.

if she would have died because of her illness that would be too generic ... i think the ending is better this way...

Well for me it was a bit sad and it left an impression on me
Showing her funeral at the start, I was like oh she dies in the end huh (basically no opinion)
Then we are shown what kind of character she is/was and how she interacted with the mc
Basically getting you attached to the character
Ryan her condition improved and was about meet the mc at a cafe she gets killed from killer not from illness which is the original assumption you get to while watching the movie
Than the funeral scene is shown again and this time feels hit me (the impression it left me is you won't feel anything for a person you don't know anything about or got attached to or had some opinion of them but if you know than or had an opinion on than or got attached to them then there death will make you feel something

I loved the ending; what really made it sad for me was the fact she died very unexpectedly from something you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to happen. I thought she was going to die of her illness or something but then my expectations were subverted in an instant and that honestly made it more real for me. Since a main theme of the movie is about living every second like it’s your last, when this shit happened it proved how real the possibility of anyone dying at any given time is even if their death is determined by something like an illness.

it was something out of my prediction and it did give a "shock" kind of feeling but it wasn't so much "sad" to me, i do like the ending tho. much prefer it rather than if they didnt reveal that she died at the beginning and gave her an "ordinary death" where she dies because of her illness. the murder was out of what we expected so it was a good twist

I see a lot of people saying “she was obviously gonna die” and shit like that. But that’s literally the fucking point lmao. The reason it’s so sad is because they were aware of their inevitable fate, so they were making the most out of the time she had left, but she died before they could finish what they started.

for some it might have been not so sad and i can see that. i personally thought it was emotional and meaningful. but nevertheless it was a good ending. it was able to prove it's point in a way that would have had an impact even if someone didn't find it sad.

and if you think about it we are all like Sakura. we don't have to be terminally ill to be cosidered short lived. cuz that was the point. you never know how long anything will last. so idk maybe value our time and make sth out of it i guess

it was a good anime

The whole point of the plot is that she's going to die, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Its moral is basically "life moves on, even without the people you love most. That's the way life is. Its too short for you to wait for your opportunity because it can end at any moment"

And this moral is stressed in Sakura's Premature death. Even though Haruki knew she was going to die, he kept waiting for his opportunity to confess his true feelings, but that day neer came because "life is too short".

Someone who was meant to die died prematurely and that's what hit the hardest.

And I wouldn't have had it end any other way.

That's not the point. I am one of those stupid people.
The fact that they told us about the message was the part I thought should not have happened. Telling us she died is a good idea, and it makes the movie much much better, but if we know *when* she is going to die, the suddenness of the death is taken away. Death is certain, but if we didn't know when it would happen, then it would be much more powerful.
But the movie gives you the entire "twist" right in your hands from the beginning and a scene which could have been really sudden and powerful lost all its charm.

The main character has little to no actual "character" and that is probably because the movie wanted to focus more on Sakura. This makes it so that we feel closer to her story because we can fill the empty character of the MC ourselves. But then the movie contradicts this by making sure we know when she dies. The stabbing news is no big deal at that point. You know she died, it's just, "oh, she died from a stabbing instead of her disease", and nothing more. On the other hand, it is supposed to be a very big deal for MC. If we are filling his shoes with our own emotions, then why aren't we allowed the same gut punch of hearing of her sudden death?

He is sitting in the restaurant waiting for her and he sends her the message, "I want to eat your pancreas.". Her reply to this message is what you are talking about. I am not talking about that.
The movie begins with MC saying that, "I sent her a message before her death, and I have no idea if she ever read it.". That's what I'm talking about. We know that he sent the message already. Her reply is part of the end and not at all connected to my argument.

That's the sad part. That she had a little more time left that she could have spent with him but she was killed. If not for that maybe we could have accepted it a bit because we were prepared for that but not for the sudden murder

It’s definitely up there Imo, but for me Your Lie In April will almost certainly Always be the saddest thing I ever watch, in general and ending wise. But pancreas is probably the second most emotional I’ve been watching anime, either that or plastic memories or maybe clannad. Your lie in April is not only the saddest but probably the best for me when it comes to sad shows tho
